It’s Sunday afternoon and instead of sitting in comfy armchair with two cats on my lap (yes—they find a way to fit), I’m blogging. That’s because I’m in training for my new year’s resolution which is to blog once a week. There are to be no excuses, and I’m starting to build my blogging muscles now!

I know I’d be better off blogging even more frequently, but I believe in making goals I can stick to, and last year I didn’t post a blog consistently once a week.  Once work starts flowing from clients, it’s easy to put my own blogging at the bottom of the pile

Even though I believe my blogging expectations are reasonable, I know resolutions are easy to conjure up, but there are no magic wands to make them happen.  This means a spoonful or two of motivation are in order. And there are some awesome, almost magical, reasons to blog consistently in 2013 and beyond.

Whenever, I feel laziness creeping in, I’ll take a look at the list below.  I’m sharing these facts here to inspire you to keep your blogging machine churning out quality content all year, attracting a flood of traffic and leads.

Some Amazing Statistics and Reasons to Blog

1.  According to HubSpot, companies that blog receive 55% more traffic than those that don’t. Blogging attracts traffic through search engine optimization because:

  • Google showcases high-quality, relevant content high in the search engines.
  • Each blog post gives a website the opportunity to rank on a different keyword phrase.
  • If you create informative, useful content, other websites will link to your website.  In fact, companies that blog gain almost twice as many inbound links as those that don’t. And every link counts in Google’s world as a vote of confidence that helps to power up your website in the rankings.

2.  Just as food and drink are essential to an outstanding party, blogging is crucial for social media marketing success—you need to engage your friends, followers and connections by sharing and discussing information they’re interested in.

3.  Blogging has a remarkable power to generate leads. The State of Inbound Marketing Lead Generation Report shows the following:

  • Business to consumer (B2C) companies that blog generate 88% more leads than those who do not.  Also, Business to consumer (B2B) companies that blog generate 67% more leads.

HubSpot’s Lead Generation Lessons from 4,000 businesses 2011 reports:

  • Businesses with 401 to 1000 web pages get 6 times more leads than those with 51-100 pages. (Of course, every blog post counts as a page!)
  • The more blog posts, the greater the number of leads generated.  Businesses that blog 20 or more times a month attract five times the traffic of those that blog 4 or less times a month.

  1. New to blogging but decided the first of the year is a great time to start! I am ready to commit to blogging in 2013 and have my new site up and ready. A new work in progress but a beginning at least! As a retired RN I understand the importance of taking charge of our health from both the professional and layperson’s perspective. I also fullly understand it is easier said than done. Making a commitment in 2013 to both improved health and consistent blogging and counting on one to help keep motivation going for the other!!!
